Providing Maximum Protection for Kids
We've provided several mechanisms to protect kids and families from objectionable content.
Obviously, you will want to enable the Adult
blocklist. The Adult blocklist can be enabled only for certain groups, so you can enable it only for one or more groups.
Your CSB can also force search engines to use “safe-search” mode and return only family friendly results. This means that links to adult oriented sites, images, and videos will be omitted from search results.
Safe-search modes are activated on the </> Advanced
page.
There are 3 safe-search levels
- Normal - No restrictions (Default)
- Moderate - Medium level filtering, Good for older teens.
- Strict - High level of filtering. Good for young kids.
There is also a filtered mode for YouTube. While it is designed to filter out “mature” topics, we have found that it can too aggressive and filter out completely innocent videos.
The Safe-search modes on the </> Advanced
page can be set with or without YouTube filtering enabled.
Safe-search modes cannot be controlled by group settings. Settings are global and apply to all clients.

Lastly, we recommend that you set your CSB upstream DNS server to CloudFlare Filtered for malware and adult content. Please follow the instructions here.
