Device Setup

Connect Your CSB to Your Network

The CYBERsitter BLACK (CSB) device needs to be connected you your network directly. WiFi would be too slow, and we want your experience to be a good one.

Your router should have a few ethernet ports, and the CSB can plug into any one of these. Alternatively, if you have a switch or ethernet port available somewhere else, you can use that too. The CSB doesn't care. It just needs to plug in somewhere on your network.

‼️ DO NOT PRESS THE RECTANGULAR DISPLAY ON THE TOP OF THE DEVICE. YOU CAN DAMAGE THE DEVICE.

❗️ Make sure you connect the network cable from the CSB to your router BEFORE you plug in the power cable. We also recommend that you turn on other Internet enabled devices temporarily during setup. This helps prevent address conflicts.

  1. First plug in the ethernet cable into your router or switch and to the CSB. The ethernet cable is the one with the clear plastic plugs on each end.
  2. Then plug in the power supply and connect it to the CSB.

Automated Setup Process

The 2 LEDs on the top of the enclosure will blink at various times during setup. Generally, the blue LED indicates it is able to communicate over the network. The red LED means it is busy performing an operation of some kind.

If the red LED is flashing, that means it is encountering a connection problem that will be displayed on the display. If the red LED is flashing, usually that is normal and the problem will correct itself after a few seconds.

The setup process for the CSB device is now completely automated. Depending on your internet connection speed, it should take anywhere from 4 to 5 minutes to complete. During the process, it will negotiate with your router to select it's permanent address, perform some connectivity tests, and update it's blocklists to the most recent version. It will reboot itself once during the process, and you can watch the display for progress messages. There may be periods where it looks inactive, but it actually is not. It is IMPORTANT to let it just do it's thing, so be patient while it works.

ℹ️ If the CSB encounters any error conditions during setup, it will display the error and tell you what to do.

When the configuration process is complete, your device will stand-by in idle mode. You will see the message “CS-BLACK ACTIVE” and begin alternating between 3 screens of information. Before proceeding, please review this section on what information is displayed on the display.

🛑 Please take a minute and write down your IP address, GW address and MAC address for easy reference later.
